Springbok Kurt-Lee Arendse to join Mitsubishi Dynaboars

World Cup-winning Springbok Kurt-Lee Arendse has signed a one-year deal with League One side Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars.

The 28-year-old utility back, whose currently on international duty with South Africa in the Rugby Championship, is set to join up with his new team in December.

Bulls wing Arendse, who scored 10 tries in the URC last season, starred against the Wallabies on 10 August as he scored two tries to inspire his country to a resounding 33-7 win in Brisbane.

Glenn Delaney’s Dynaboars finished ninth last season as they narrowly avoided being drawn into a relegation battle.

Arendse, who has scored 17 tries in 19 appearances for South Africa, joins the likes of former All Black Jackson Hemopo, English fly-half James Grayson, former Wallabies international and rugby league ace Curtis Rona and free-scoring Thailand-born wing Ben Paltridge in Sagamihara, Kanagawa.

Former sevens star Arende becomes the latest Springboks star to join League One with Cheslin Kolbe (Suntory), Damian de Allende (Saitama), Jessie Kriel (Yokohama), Faf de Klerk (Yokohama), Pieter Steph Du Toit (Toyota), Kwagga Smith (Shizuoka) and Franco Mostert (Honda) among the stars on show in Japan.

The Dynaboars open their pre-season schedule by hosting division three side Kurita Water Gush Akishima on 14 September before entertaining division two side Toyota Industries Shuttles Aichi on 23 November and finishing up against division three newcomers Secom Rugguts on 14 December.

The Sagamihara Gion Stadium side are no strangers to recruiting marquee names after luring Welsh wizard and former World Player of The Year Shane Williams to Japan in 2012 for three seasons.
