Mitsubishi Dynaboars has finally unveiled Springspoks wing Kurt-Lee Arendse as their latest signing and one of the highest-profile additions to League One for the 2024-25 season.
RugbyJP announced in August that Glenn Delaney’s side had agreed a one-year deal with the 2023 World Cup winner.
Arendse, 28, who scored 10 tries in the URC last season, will link up with his new team in December, following the Autumn Nations Series, RugbyJP can reveal.
We contacted the Dynaboars last week to ask when the club would announce the signing but didn’t receive a reply.
The Dynaboars shared a video from Arendse on social media on Tuesday afternoon.
Arendse, who joins from Pretoria-based URC outfit the Bulls, said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Mitsubishi Dynaboars and I’m grateful to represent such a great club.
“I want to thank the owners and coaches for trusting me with this chance and I look forward to giving my best for the absolute success of the team.
“I’m eager to contribute on and off the field and can’t wait to make the Mitsubishi fans proud. Let’s make this season a special one.”
This is the not the first time the Dynaboars has raised eyebrows by signing one of the game’s top stars after luring former Welsh wing wizard and 2008 World Player of The Year Shane Williams to Japan to end his career from 2012 – 2015.
The Dynaboars finished ninth (out of 12 teams) last season and narrowly avoided being involved in the relegation play-off matches.
Their squad includes former All Black Jackson Hemopo, recent Brave Blossoms debutant Epineri Uluiviti, ex-NRL star and former Wallabies international Curtis Rona as well as highly-talented wingers Ben Paltridge and Honeti Taumohaapai who are both eligible for Japan.
Arendse will be a big draw for spectators who can look forward to a mouthwatering all-Springbok clash between their new recruit and Suntory wing Cheslin Kolbe on 16 March in Kyoto.
The Kanagawa side will open their 2024-2025 campaign against Greig Laidlaw’s newly-promoted Urayasu D-Rocks whose ranks includes Springbok Jasper Wiese and Wallabies veteran Samu Kerevi. Pictures courtesy of the Springboks
