Fijian rugby student arrested for stealing a taxi in Tokyo

Fijian rugby student Aporosa Derenalagi has been arrested in Tokyo after allegedly stealing a taxi. 

Aporosa, 23, who is a second-year student at Ryutsu Keizai University in Ibaraki, is accused of stealing a taxi in the early hours of Saturday 17 August.

After throwing the drivers smartphone out of the vehicle, the driver exited the car to retrieve his phone and the player fled in the taxi for an hour and a half. 

The winger, who represented Fiji at the Oceania Rugby Under-18 Sevens Championship in 2018, was arrested at Yoyogi Police Station in Tokyo.   

Ryutsu Keizai University are yet to make a comment about the arrest.  

Aporosa last played for his University team in a training match against Hosei University on 23 June.  

The 46th Kanto University Junior Championships are due to start on Sunday 1 September.
