Suntory Sungoliath’s latest high-profile fly-half signing Nicolás Sánchez will make his debut for the club in a behind closed doors training match against Mitsubishi Sagamihara DynaBoars on Sunday.
Argentine veteran Sánchez, 35, has replaced the injured Gareth Anscombe in the Suntory squad after the Welshman’s registration was cancelled following a groin injury he sustained in the World Cup.
The former Stade Français fly-half was instrumental in Argentina’s quarter-final victory over Wales at the World Cup as he scored a late try and penalty to push Los Puma’s over the line as injured Anscombe watched from the stands.
National hero Sánchez, who was won 104 Test caps for his country, will be challenging impressive youngster Mikiya Takamoto for Suntory’s highly-coveted number 10 jersey.
Following in the footsteps of Aaron Cruden, Beauden Barrett and Matt Giteau, the hugely experienced playmaker will be an intrigued observer when he watches Suntory’s first team in League One action on Saturday against Mitsubishi Sagamihara DynaBoars.
The likes of Cheslin Kolbe, Sam Cane and Ryoto Nakamura will feature for Suntory 24 hours before the club’s meet in a match to give their wider squad members vital game time.
Last season’s beaten semi-finalists Suntory have won four out of five games this season while their hosts DynaBoars sit ninth (out of 12) with a record of two wins and three defeats.
