Yakult’s Moses Jones to undergo knee surgery

Yakult Levins Toda full-back Moses Jones has been ruled out for most of the 2024-25 season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury in training.

The 22-year-old, who joined League One newcomers Yakult in October 2023 from Queensland Premier side GPS Rugby, will undergo knee surgery in three weeks' time.

Hamilton native Jones is set to be on the sidelines for ‘seven to eight’ months according to the radiologist who reviewed his x-ray.

Jones is the younger brother of Wallabies legend and Hanazono Kintetsu Liners fly-half Quade Cooper who play in division two next season, one division higher than his sibling.

The talented youngster, who graduated from Brisbane High School, revealed the news in a post on Instagram on Saturday.

“That wasn’t the news I was hoping for,” said Jones who also has experience of playing at fly-half.

“Considering I’ll be out for most of the season it’ll take me a little bit of time to process. I’ll have surgery in three weeks and after surgery I’ll spend two weeks in hospital.”

Yakult kick off their first season in League One away at fellow division three newcomers LeRIRO Fukuoka on 22 December.
